Biography
Zack Hall is an active performer and educator located in the Northern Colorado area. He began his musical journey in 2005 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he studied with Chris Combs, Bill Phalen, and Anthony Banzali. In 2017, Zack graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a BM in Percussion Performance. In his time at UNCO, Zack studied under Gray Barrier and Mike Truesdell. He spent his time playing in bands, orchestras, percussion ensembles, and world drumming ensembles throughout his 4 years. Zack has resumed studies at UNCO and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Jazz Drumset underneath Jim White while performing in several ensembles, including the Blue Note Combo, Continuum and the Spectrum Studio Orchestra.
In addition to his schooling at UNC, Zack was heavily influenced in his teaching and performing through his involvement in marching percussion. Zack performed as a member of the Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble for 4 years, playing snare drum, and is an alumnus of Rise Percussion's inaugural season in 2013. In his involvement with the marching arts, Zack has had the privilege of being taught by many inspirational teachers such as Zac Barnard, Dan Allen, Mike Nevin, and Rod Kosterman.
Zack has performed throughout the Front Range with a variety of projects: funk bands Val Chillmer and Titonic, jazz and fusion groups Kyle Cervantes Quintet, d’Lovelies, and D-City Junction, country, blues, and rock groups Westside Cruiser, Southern Frey, Steve and the Cruisers, and Headfirst, and classical ensembles Greeley Philharmonic, the Greeley Chamber Orchestra, and the Larimer Chorale. He has had the opportunity to play at several prestigious events including Bravo Vail, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago.
As an educator, Zack has taught drumset, marching and classical percussion, and piano for over a decade. He currently teaches through his private studio and the Loveland Academy of Music. He has educated numerous high schools and ensembles including the Blue Knights Percussion Ensemble, Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps, Black Diamond Percussion, Loveland High School, Thompson Valley High School, Windsor High School, Greeley Central High School, and Standley Lake High School. Zack has worked with these programs in a variety of roles: director, composer, arranger, battery caption head, snare technician, private instructor, and drill writer, as well running auditions and clinics for students across the nation. His love for music and drumming is palpable, and he strives to spread that love to students and audiences alike.
